Love Letter
While I was overseas, I wrote my girlfriend a love letter to tell her how much I missed her. That letter was “Q.” Now it’s almost 10 years later, and she still has that letter, hidden away in a box that she keeps under her bed, next to her prize-winning jumping bean collection.
I remember agonizing over the decision of what letter to write her, and today I realize how fragile things are; our relationship and our lives could have gone in completely different directions if I had foolishly written her an “L”, for example.
Luckily, even in the youthful ignorance that I enjoyed back then, I still knew better than to write her a “W.” Although, wow, if I hadn’t heard some of the stories from my friends about how some of the letters they wrote turned out, maybe I would have. Thinking that thought, just now, has scared me so much that a few of my fingernails just fell off, and one of my toenails is looking decidedly less attached than usual. I’m going to have to run now and take care of that. Please continue with your lives as if my fingernails and toenails were 100% attached.
Thank you for reading, and always be careful in your letter writing.
