Hooray For Fall

Yes campers, it’s almost time to break out the snowshoes and take the iceflies off of the bookshelf: it’s autumn! Ah, autumn; that magical time of the year when your cytoplasm just sparkles with energy and every television broadcast is something new. It’s the kind of season that reaffirms your belief in the Season Fairy, who oversees trees and grasses and weather in general and makes sure that things keep progressing, one season after the other, in some kind of orderly procession like a bunch of clockwork frisbees flying through the sky the way that frisbees often do.

Yes, Season Fairy, come here. Sprinkle your skin upon the land like snowflakes. Lick the leaves and make them turn to all kinds of schmaltzy tree colors. Say “howdy” to the sparrows and send them packing off to distant lands where they don’t know anybody and will be forced to stay in a cheap motel near Orlando, living off of mediocre room service and spending all day staring at the tacky paisley curtains.

Those poor lost sparrows, how can they bear that kind of a life? You are cruel and unusual, Season Fairy. You sabotage the birds and litter our lands with your refuse, and yet we don’t have a choice but sing songs to you and give you gifts, because you are evil and relentless. We know you’ll make us squeal in terror as you unscrew our feet from our ankles if we ever dare question your unquestionable rightness. That’s life on Earth, and we know it, and we should be happy that you let us briefly visit with Spring for a week or two. Who could ask for anything else? We’re perfectly happy and don’t feel tormented by your omnipresent presence even a tiny little bit.

It’s a warm and fuzzy feeling all around, truly it is. Hooray for fall!
